AHMEDABAD: The six-lane 1,000-metre-long new river bridge, Vadaj-Dudheshwar is nearing completion and will give BRTS connectivity from Dilli Darwaja to Vadaj. Deputy municipal commissioner, AMC, and in-charge of JNNURM, RR Varsani said, "The Dudheshwar bridge project is in its completion stage. Almost 75 per cent of construction work is over. At present, 67 bridge piles on Dudheshwar side have been erected while the process of putting 33 piles on Vadaj side has commenced."
The bridge is an effort to divert increasing vehicular traffic from Ashram Road to 132-feet Ring Road.
However, construction of the new bridge over Sabarmati got mired in a controversy after a religious shrine came in its way. An AJL official said, "It will be done through negotiation."
Once this route become operational, the state government will notify AMC authorities and traffic police department of the city to block the main Sabarmati Ashram road to convert the ashram precinct into a silent zone as proposed.
